Is there anyone who doesn’t like Fridays? Fridays are generally a relaxed day at the office going to the extent of being allowed to wear blue jeans to work. People frequently go out for lunch on Fridays or drinks after work. It’s the prelude to the weekend.
It’s also the prelude to bad behaviours. In this case I’m talking about indulging in bad food choices. Yes, I am back at that again. Diets, food plans, what have you. I was thinking about this on the way back to the office from visiting my friend Jane. How do you socialize with people without food? I go walking with a friend over the lunch hour frequently but I have to admit it’s hard to talk when you are either bustling through the Plus 15 amongst a lot of other people or else keeping your breath while you set a good walking pace much less chat.
Socializing inevitably leads to food and drink unless you are peculiar. Even if you are hiking or going bird watching with someone surely you are going to unwind at the end with something to eat or drink? Would you just get into your separate cars and drive home? That seems very unsatisfying to me.
Now that I’ve built a case, sort of, for bad behaviour how do I overcome it? It all comes down to self control and dedication to The Plan. Moderation and good choices are key ingredients to staying on track. Nothing new or surprising there but how does one keep that dedication and self control when confronted by delicious smells and the wrong kind of encouragement. “Go ahead, have a taste, one bite won’t hurt you.” Oh yes it will. One bite leads to two and you are on the downward spiral.
Much better to take your brown bag lunch with your peanut butter sandwiches to work and eat at your desk. Then go for a brisk walk with or without a friend and feel ready for the weekend on a good note. That’s the plan for today.
And now, back on the treadmill.
Happy Friday Everyone.
