Oh boy, do I let some family members have it today!
Oct 4, 1969 Today’s my mother’s birthday
but nothing seems to be going right for me.
Jeanette is mad at me for no good reason and so, I think, is my dad. He
says I waste my money which I don’t think is true. The money I’ve spent was
always done for a good purpose. I needed graph paper and binder paper so I bought
it. I bought stamps to mail letters and occasionally I bought a chocolate
bar. And once a month I buy “16” and my father buys “Ring”, “Black Belt” and “Reader’s
Digest” (he also buys cigarettes). So I don’t think I waste my money. He brings
Ole (John) as an example. What an example!
I was the ONLY one who bought Mummy a birthday present, Jens-Ole never
buys anybody. He bought a $5 racing car when Peter owns the track and he cheats
on my father owing him money. Also I NEVER add money without believing I
honestly deserve it. Waste money, indeed!
NOTE: We had a rather erratic allowance system. I
don’t remember how much we got per month at this time (when I was in Grade 12 I
got my portion of the baby bonus which was about $10) but on top of that if we
did some “extra” chores we could add that to our allowance. Since my regular
duties included both doing the dishes and babysitting Charlotte my extra chores
options were limited. Jeanette polished
dad’s shoes and John ran errands (buying cigarettes and such) so I was cut off
from those things. True, John was a great saver of money and he is still frugal
to this day. J Me, I was always the most like my dad, I was
kind of a big spender but it often went as gifts to the other kids!
