Encouragement from Dad

My readers know that for me as a kid, teen and young woman my Dad absolutely walked on water.  Even when I was older and wiser (as I am today, LOL)I can say without any doubt that my father was the most intelligent (he had an IQ of 163) and widely read person I have ever known which is saying quite a lot since I have worked with some pretty high achievers in law and engineering.  He had a fantastic sense of humour and the kindest, most generous heart of anyone I have ever met.  Did he have flaws, of course, but his better qualities overrode his failings and to this day I miss him like anything.  This entry shows you how much his words meant to me:
July 27, 1969  Today I was talking to my dad and he has brought up points I hadn’t thought about before (when I wrote I wouldn’t be a doctor).  He says you owe it to yourself to get the best possible education you can. With this I agree. Still, I’m not sure I can be a doctor.  Also I’m not sure I want to be one, but I’m going to aim at the  highest that way I’ll be prepared for anything. I’d still love to be an actress. My dad is concerned about Jeanette’s school work. This worries me so I’m promising myself that I’ll help her all I can. I’m just itching for school to start. (I never thought I’d come to this!) . . . You know, I’d love to take rifle and arrow target shooting. I don’t know why I wrote that but my head is in a muddle today.  Bonsoir!
NOTE:  As to the comment about the rifle and arrow target shooting, it stuck in my head and is something that I regret not having done to this day.  I did go to the shooting range in Nanton once and I actually hit the bull’s eye.  I rather enjoyed it but I never went back and I am not really sure why except it was mostly old men there which rather intimidated me I guess.
