OMG I See GWTW

August 11, 1969  Today I went to see “gone with the Wind”.  It was the VERY best movie I’ve ever seen. I’d like to be very much like Scarlett O’Hara.  I’ve read the book three times and it’s also the very best book I’ve ever read and I’ve read a good many, nearly 300 (225 I think).
Oh yes and today Jeanette had her first period. She said “I want to have a sister to sister talk!! At first I thought it was about the way my father sometimes treated her but then I thought about it and I guessed right. We were both kind of embarrassed but that’s just the way we are. Anne Frank said that she was glad she didn’t blush easily but I’m glad I’m sort of modest, if that’s what you call it. Well I have to have a game of cards with Jeanette. Adieu.
NOTE:  Don’t you like how I round up 225 to 300?  I didn’t write down in my diary what I told Nette (and later Lotte) about how Mom handled my “moment”.  I came into her room and said “Mor, I am bleeding.”  She was still in bed while all of us were getting ready for.  And she said “well put a Band-Aid on it”.  And I whined “Mor, not like that . . . “ and Mom got all flustered and went through the procedure (I leave it at that).  So I always found it funny and say “put a Band-Aid on it” with some irony!  Curiously both my sisters came to me rather than Mom for their “moment” and I think they knew intuitively that Mom was very much like Ellen O’Hara who didn’t acknowledge that cows calved, horses foaled or even that chickens laid eggs!
