We continue the dialogue with my
airy fairy goals, all of which came to naught because I forgot to take into
account Dad’s over protective nature which included coming straight home from
school which in turn meant no extra-curricular activities!
July 25, 1969 This year I plan
to work really hard at school. I want to
pull my marks right up to an 80%. It’s going to be hard but I’m going to try.
This year I’m going to join the drama club and track team (note – I was a
very good runner having inherited Dad’s speed). And also the photography club
if there is one note: I had been given a Brownie camera for Christmas in
Grade 8 and took quite a lot of pretty good pictures for someone who wasn’t
coached).
I’m not sure but maybe I
want to be an actress. I don’t know if I
have any real talent but I’m gonna find out.
There’s something else I’d like to be and that’s a writer. I think if I
knew shorthand I could write my stories a whole lot better because when I
finish one word I sometimes forget what’s next. One of my favorite writers is
Louisa May Alcott. She writes such groovy children’s books. I’ve read “Little
Women”, “Little Men”, “Eight Cousins” and “Rose in Bloom” seven times and “An
Old Fashioned Girl” three times and “A Garland for Girls” once.
Oh yes! Jeanette and me patched up our stoney silence last night
(Jeanette made up ‘cause she was scared there was a ghost in her room!)
NOTE: I should really just let my naiveté stand on
it’s own, shouldn’t I? J
