Quite the experience at the equator. It is a beautiful place, and should be a short ride but due to some misunderstandings our ride home was particularly lengthy. But that’s for later.
Mitad del Mundo ( means middle of the world) is set up with a large tower (very attractive) right at the base of which there is the yellow line for zero latitude. Lots of folks having pictures taken there, including me. I will try to get photos on tomorrow since we will be on a bus for 7 hours!
Yes, we have a change of plan (again) because the bus we were to take to Bahai (not Baja) was in an accident and apparently the whole company is shut down. So the other bus chain only goes direct to Manta unless we want to take a night bus which is not recommended for women. Furthermore, for some reason Gmail is out of commission so we have emailed Barb’s realtor via my email and hope she replies before we leave on the bus as we won’t have internet access on the bus.
Did I say I was up for the adventure?
All is not yet revealed. On our homeward trip the bus to Quito which we happened to take did not take us to the depot like we thought it would, instead we got a tour of the old city, all the way up the mountain to the statue of San Francisco. Magnificent view though it was scary going down as I was on the side that appeared to lean over the mountain. Then near the centre we basically got thrown off the bus. We had a bit of challenge getting a cab (almost like NYC, getting rejected again by a cabbie is a bit of a shock when you are not speaking the language very well to begin with). Fortunately some gallant gentlemen saw our problem and acted as taxi for us.
The rest of the story will wait for another time.
